Being that Mom is just diagnosed with diabetes, she has to take insulin shots every day. The doctor told her to try to take them every day at the same time. Mom is usually very punctual (my StepDad is the EPITOME of punctuality and dependability... I'm completely opposite, not matter how hard I try!) so I don't really WORRY, but I know how important it is for her to take her shot. So.. I set the alarm on my iPhone... every day I call her to make sure she remembers. I did call her once, at the beginning, and she had forgotten... so I try to make a quick call if I can. Well, she just bought herself a little alarm and set it to go off every day for her shot also... just for peace of mind. So far, she hadn't forgotten. But the alarm is a good idea anyway... right??
I have an alarm go off everyday at 10 to remind myself to take vitamins. 11:15 for me to remind Byron to wear his rubber bands on his braces so he can get them off sooner. 11:55 to let me know it's time to watch the noon-time news. 3 to check the pool basket and chlorine. 3:30 for Mom's shot. 5:55 for evening news. 9:55pm for nightly news. 6pm on Wednesdays to remind me that all trash needs to be taken to the road because Thursday is Trash Day. 6pm Fridays to shock pool and add algaecide. That's alot of alarms, huh? Well, I need 'em. I'm forgetful and the alarms help...... some.
Today at 3:30 the alarm goes off for Mom's shot. I look at the time (hadn't looked at the phone yet) and saw 3:30 and could NOT remember what the alarm for 3:30 was set for! Man, how bad can a memory be?!? I guess it is a good thing I label the alarms. Well, I call Mom and she answers the phone all happy and chipper and I said "it's time for your shot, girlfriend" and she says "what?" and I said "it's time for your shot!" then comes Mom's famous **GASP** and "Aye! My shot!"... then get this... she says "so THAT'S what that ringing is!!" LOL LOL LOL She never forgot her shot before and now that she actually set an alarm, she not only forgot the shot, but heard the alarm and didn't know what the ringing was!!! Now I know where I get it from!!!
It's tough getting old! Lord, help us!!
